Having said that, it's nice that the Zoom models do have an extra pair of audio outs for mixing (2 x Stereo channels). They aren't really mixing boards per se, like the Soundcraft and Tascam Models which are obviously fully featured (pretty much) mixing desks. While the Zoom series of these mixers are superb Swiss Army Knife devices, I don't think many people would want to mix back out on them. Being able to record IN is a lot more handy than being able to mix back OUT. But it's not such a limitation in practice. It's just the particular architecture of that line of mixers it would seem. The Zoom also is a very handy device for recording in to the Akai MPC One, but even if you have the Zoom L-20 you still only get 22 channels in and 4 channels back out. ![]() I believe the other Tascam Model mixers (16 + 24) can also be used as devices with the MPC One. ![]() The most popular class compliant mixers for the MPC One seem to be the Soundcraft MTK series and the Tascam Model 12. My Tascam DP-24SD is not class compliant and can only do Stereo in out so is useless as a mixer for input/output from the MPC One. Not all digital mixers which are class compliant give you an equal number of inputs outputs. You just get a couple of USB output pairs. I have the Zoom L-12 and it's perfect for recording in the MPC One, but you can't come back out and have all those tracks available. The discrepancy between the extra pair of tracks is because you can record the Master in as well which counts as 2 extra tracks. ![]() But those are the specs.Ī Soundcraft MTK-12 would give you 14 tracks for recording and 12 tracks for playback. If you use a Tascam Model 12 you get 12 tracks in and 12 tracks back out, apparently, I've not tried it. If you use a Soundcraft MTK-22 then you get 24 tracks in and 22 tracks back out. Have not tried any audio but a mpc forum has a running list that is so so for documented issues. If you use a Zoom L-12 then you get 14 tracks in to the Akai MPC One, but only 4 tracks out (2 stereo). Midi devices add to the I/O, but audio seems to be a choice between the stock I/O or the USB interface. You can expand any of the MPC or Force machines with Class Compliant midi or audio interfaces. ![]()
